"It is a process. A new jersey specifically for the gravel bike and bikepacking sector will soon adorn the TRIPLE2 portfolio. This time, however, we are not developing on our own. We believe that as a team we are smarter. And the team is YOU!" "Take an active part in our development and create the best gravel bike jersey in the world with us! And in the meantime, secure your chance to win an exclusive gravel bike kit worth €500!"
"When we started our campaign a few weeks ago to develop a new gravel bike jersey together with you, we didn't expect this: Over 300 cyclists participated in our survey and provided us with a whole bunch of valuable input. THANK YOU!"
Unfortunately, the evaluation of the data and especially the extensive responses and the review of so many creative ideas has taken quite a bit of time.
"But the results are all the better! Of course, you will get the complete overview here."
"Before we get started, here’s a brief overview for everyone who is new and doesn’t know what we are actually doing here."
"We are taking you along on our development journey of the new bikepacking and gravel bike jersey. You have the opportunity to actively participate in the development. Those who stick it out until the end will have the chance to win a Gravelbike Merino Kit worth €500!"
Phase 1 - The Idea - completed
"We want a new jersey that is specifically tailored to the needs of bikepacking adventurers and gravel bike riders. It should be short-sleeved and ideally made of merino. Those are the only requirements."
Phase 2 - The Brainstorming - Deadline for participation; 31.08.2023
"At this point, you enter the game for the first time. We want to develop the best gravel bike jersey in the world as a team. Because we believe that together with you, we are significantly smarter. Let's start the development together. Let's kick things off with our questionnaire!"
Phase 3 - Prototyping
"We analyze the results of the questionnaire and incorporate your ideas into the first prototypes. From the choice of materials to the equipment and features of the jersey, all aspects are checked for feasibility and subsequently implemented."
Phase 4 - Testing
"Let's get on the bike! In this phase, we will jointly test the first prototypes thoroughly. What works, what needs to be improved? After various uses and many kilometers on the gravel bike, we will know more."
Phase 5 - Recap
"Questionnaire number 2 is waiting for you. We present our results and want to know: What is good, what needs to be improved on the gravel bike jersey of the future?"
Depending on the needs, an additional development cycle with prototypes and preproduction samples follows at this point, before moving into the production of our new bikepacking and gravel bike jersey.
You have always been interested in being involved in the development of a new product? Perfect! You now have the opportunity to become part of our development team.
"We believe that our products will improve with your help, which is why we look forward to your comments, reviews, and ideas about our new bikepacking and gravel bike jersey."
"Start now with the questionnaire and secure the chance to win a Grabelbike Merino Kit including a Gravelbike jersey worth €500. We are raffling off three kits among all who participate in this questionnaire."
Sorry, we couldn't help it. We just had to try out an exciting Merino material for our new gravel bike jersey. More info in the video:
"We suspected it! You are also Merino fans. 50.3% of participants voted for 100% Merino in the gravel bike jersey. Closely followed by 44.7% who would choose a jersey with a Merino blend. So, a fabric made from Merino fibers mixed with, for example, Tencel or synthetic fibers like nylon or polyester, or biodegradable fibers that would decompose together with the Merino wool at the end of the lifespan of the gravel bike jersey."
"Since the result essentially represents a draw, we would like to share our personal tendency with you here: From our experience, a gravel bike jersey is better made from a merino blend or a combination of several materials. Why is that? The complete explanation can be found in the video!"
The result shows a tendency that is relatively strongly material-related. The most important material properties for you are odor neutrality, breathability, and temperature regulation. Closely following in second place are abrasion resistance, lightness, and pack size for your gravel bike jersey.
"We can sign off on that! However, why abrasion resistance and low weight tend to contradict each other, and how you can resolve this difference in your gravel bike jersey, you can see in the video."
"Clear case, we would say: Your jersey will be a bit looser but not flappy. 73.3% support this style for a gravel bike jersey. However, this also means that we are looking for a compromise in terms of wearing comfort."
What the fit of the gravel bike jersey with the pockets on the back has to do with it, you'll find out in the video!
"Two fit variants would be cool. I come from the enduro area and gravel as a complement to the bike and prefer it to be more relaxed and stylish. My bike buddy comes from road cycling and prefers the tighter-fitting jerseys. We argue almost every ride about what the actual gravel style is."
"The outcome of this question was not unexpected. But we wanted to be on the safe side: It is clear that the sizes you need for your gravel bike jersey will be reflected in the classic size distribution that applies to all other clothing items out there."
"We will strive to offer as wide a size distribution as possible. However, you can find out why there may still be limitations in the video."
"Even when it comes to the question of sleeve length for your gravel bike jersey, there is a clear result: 62.3% of you prefer a sleeve length that ends right in the middle of the bicep, in the spirit of a classic T-shirt."
"In terms of style, it's more gravel than road cycling. Or how do you see it? A question at this point: Would you like to help us develop a new VELOZIP SUB road bike shirt? Feel free to write in the comments on our video."
"Whether in the lake, after every ride, or just every few days in the washing machine: at some point, a gravel bike jersey has to be washed. That it doesn't have to be after every ride with merino wool is neither your wish nor practical, because in some cases, you might simply be several days away from a washing opportunity."
59.7% indicate that a wash should only be necessary after a few outings or is. In the interest of sustainability and resource conservation, we support this!
"Always as needed or when required, not every outing is an overnighter :)"
"We can't get around sunscreen on the gravel bike. And since we are often exposed to the blazing sun for hours, our gravel bike jersey should ideally have a high UPF rating. Even if it's not super important, it would be a nice to have. We agree!"
"Every cycling jersey should achieve a minimum UPF value of 30+. Ideally even higher. How we can achieve this, you can see in the video."
"With this question, you are clearly leaning towards a classic jersey layout. 3 pockets plus 1 zip pocket are now standard. But does a heavy load on the back fit with the rather casual cut that you desire?"
"We go into the details in our video. Also: Does a waterproof bag make sense on the gravel bike jersey?"
Many know this nice gimmick from their windbreakers or from wind vests for cyclists. But does this feature also make sense for gravel bike jerseys?
Two-thirds of the survey participants say: No, a zipper that can also be opened from the bottom makes no sense on the Gravelbike jersey.
"We will clarify the advantages and disadvantages in the video and also reveal: Does such a special zipper cost much more than a conventional one?"
"100% Merino has, in my experience, the best properties regarding odor neutrality, as other materials, including a Merino blend, cannot compete. Thanks to the nightly airing, the jersey does not need to be washed more than once a week, which benefits the longevity of the material. For me, sportswear is perfect when it contains only what is truly necessary. Therefore, I don't need pockets, as I have enough storage space while bikepacking, allowing me to maintain freedom and breathability on my back. A loose fit is important so that the airflow can cool during heat, and possibly a rubberized lower hem to prevent it from riding up during the ride. I think it's great that you involve your customers in this development process, and I am already looking forward to the next steps."
