"6 months. 6 countries. How Julian Langhans crosses the Amazon by bike to save 27 square kilometers of rainforest."
In the rainforest by bike
Julian is a cyclist, explorer, filmmaker. And: He has a mission.
He wants to protect 27 square kilometers of rainforest in the Amazon. That's why he has set out to visit the place he wants to protect.
He is supported by Dr. Rainer Putz from the Rainforest Institute. After 25 years of project and development work in the Amazon, he knows that lasting rainforest protection is best achieved in close collaboration with the traditional populations who live in and from the forest.
Julian: "The Amazon can be used both economically and ecologically. It does not have to be exploited for timber, monocultures, and mines."
"On my route, I cross Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil. The goal of my journey is the Amazon project, deep in the Brazilian jungle. There, we see what our donations achieve and can understand how valuable such an intact rainforest is."
We accompany Julian on his journey!

For the protection of the rainforest
Julian introduces himself: "I invite you to immerse yourselves in the nature and culture of South America together for six months."
From September 2022 to the end of February 2023, the high Andes and the deep jungle are my daily challenges. There we can explore nature together and understand how the locals live and think.
THE PROJECT
The Rainforest Institute protects 24 km² rainforest in the Brazilian Amazon. A way has been developed to utilize the Amazon economically and ecologically. This project draws new values from the jungle by enabling the inhabitants to earn money with natural products collected from the intact forest. This symbiosis refutes the claim that the Amazon is economically worthless. Thus, we can argue not only for the protection of nature but also provide a counterargument to the destroyers of the Amazon.
GOALS
10,000€. - First goal - a boat and a solar system
70,000€. - Second goal - a satellite communication system / means to build the house on the project site. A local family will live there and protect the 24 km² property from deforestation. Additionally, a guest room is to be integrated and later even a research station is to be established (see third goal).
Third goal - As soon as we achieve the first objectives, the Rainforest Institute wants to build the research facility and even purchase more rainforest.

The Rainforest Institute introduces itself
Dr. Rainer Putz: "We are in a race against time!"
"If we want to slow down global warming and the loss of species, we must take action!"
A key to this is the protection of the rainforests in the Amazon. After 25 years of project and development work in the Amazon, we know that lasting rainforest protection is best achieved in close collaboration with the traditional populations who live in and from the forest.
"Rainforest Institute e.V. and Rainforest Store stand for sustainable use of the Amazon forests by the traditional population. From our long-standing project collaboration, locally produced, unique, high-quality food and body care products originate. This makes a part of the incredible biodiversity of this vital habitat for the global climate sustainably usable. They generate reliable income for the population while simultaneously protecting the forest."
This enables us to actively contribute to climate protection through responsible consumption. The entire production takes place on-site, creating value and establishing new social and economic structures that are urgently needed to preserve the forests of the Amazon. Local processing ensures the survival of the residents in the forest and creates additional jobs in the urban area.
"PROTECTING THE RAINFOREST MEANS PROTECTING THE CLIMATE - FOR OUR FUTURE. JOIN US!"
